Why it is doing this
Rain needs air to be lifted until it cools past the point where it can hold its moisture. Two things do that lifting here: a front, or the ground simply heating up through the afternoon.
The barometer is up 1.3 millibars in six hours. Rising pressure means air is sinking, and sinking air warms and dries on the way down, which is what clears a sky out.
The wind is out of the northeast at about 6 miles an hour, so the air over us is coming down the Appalachian side, which is drier air.
