What will the weather be for high school football Friday night in Columbus and Auburn?
Friday night kickoff runs 75 degrees in Columbus and 70 in Auburn, dropping into the 60s by the fourth quarter, with no rain anywhere in west Georgia or east Alabama.

Friday night in the stands is going to feel more like September than the last night of October. Every town in the viewing area sits between 68 and 75 degrees around kickoff under a partly cloudy sky, rain chances are either zero or one percent, and the wind never gets above about 10 mph. This is a short-sleeve night almost everywhere, and the stadium blanket can stay in the car.
Columbus is the warm end of it. At Kinnett Stadium and A.J. McClung Memorial Stadium, where Shaw, Hardaway, Columbus, Spencer, Kendrick, Jordan, Carver, Northside, Calvary Christian, Pacelli and Brookstone play, it will be 75 around kickoff and still 69 by the fourth quarter, with a light 10 mph breeze and dry air. Over in Cusseta, home of Chattahoochee County, the numbers are the same 75 and 69.
The southern tier of Georgia counties stays nearly as mild. Buena Vista and Marion County, Ellaville and Schley County, Butler and Taylor County, and Preston and Webster County all see 74 around kickoff and 67 or 68 late. In Cuthbert, Randolph Clay has the clearest sky on the board, mostly clear, at 73 and 68. Lumpkin and Stewart County and Talbotton and Central-Talbotton land at 73 early and high 60s late.
Chambers County, Alabama is the cool corner. In LaFayette, where LaFayette and Chambers Academy play, and in Valley, home of Valley and Beulah, it will be 68 around kickoff and 63 by the fourth quarter. Greenville in Meriwether County also drops to 63 late. Those are the three places where a hoodie in the fourth quarter is a real idea rather than a precaution. Just up the road in Lanett, Lanett and Springwood are five degrees warmer at 73.
Across the Alabama line near Columbus, Central-Phenix City is at 72 and 66, and Russell County in Seale sits at 70 and 65. Auburn and Lee-Scott in Auburn, and Opelika and Beauregard in Opelika, all run 70 around kickoff and the mid 60s late. Tuskegee, home of Booker T. Washington, has the calmest air anywhere on the list, essentially no wind at all, at 70 and 66. Loachapoka and Notasulga are within a degree or two of that. Eufaula goes from 70 to 64, and in Clayton, where Barbour County plays, it is 68 and 63 with the muggiest air of the night at 81 percent humidity.
In Georgia, LaGrange, Troup County and LaGrange Academy see 71 around kickoff and 64 late, the same pair of numbers as Callaway in Hogansville. Harris County in Hamilton is 72 and 66, Manchester 71 and 65, Smiths Station and Glenwood 71 and 66.
What to bring: nothing extra at kickoff anywhere. Leave the umbrella at home. If you are sitting in LaFayette, Valley or Greenville, carry one light layer for the last quarter and you will be comfortable walking back to the parking lot.
Around kickoff → by the fourth quarter, on each school’s own clock.
No school or town by that name in the viewing area.
Central time in Alabama, Eastern in Georgia. Start times vary; check with the school. Forecast: National Weather Service.
