What will the weather be for high school football games in Columbus and Auburn Friday night?
Friday night games across the Valley are dry and clear, with 70 degrees at kickoff in Columbus falling to 59 by the fourth quarter, and cooler starts near 59 to 62 in Clayton, Eufaula, Valley, Opelika and Auburn.

This is about as easy a football night as the Chattahoochee Valley gets. The sky is clear from Hogansville to Eufaula, the rain chance is zero at every school in the viewing area, and the air is dry enough that the warmth will drain out of it quickly once the sun is down. Sunset in Columbus is at 6:57, so the lights at Kinnett Stadium and A.J. McClung Memorial Stadium will be doing the work all evening. Expect to walk in comfortable and walk out cool.
Columbus is the warm spot. Around Shaw, Hardaway, Carver, Jordan, Spencer, Kendrick, Northside, Columbus High, Pacelli, Brookstone and Calvary Christian, it will be 70 around kickoff and 59 by the fourth quarter — an 11-degree slide, the biggest drop of the night anywhere in the area. There is also a 10 mph breeze in Columbus, the only place with much wind at all, so the back row of the bleachers will feel cooler than the number says.
The coolest start belongs to Clayton, where Barbour County plays: 59 at kickoff and 55 late. Eufaula is right behind at 60 and 55, and over in Valley, home of Valley and Beulah, it is 60 falling to 54. Opelika and Beauregard start at 61 and settle to 56. Auburn and Lee-Scott see 62 and 57, and in Tuskegee, where Booker T. Washington plays, it is 62 and 57 with the wind flat calm.
The coldest fourth quarter of all is in Greenville, which drops from 64 to 52. Around LaGrange, where LaGrange, Troup County and LaGrange Academy play, look for 66 and 55, with Callaway in Hogansville at 66 falling to 54. Manchester matches that start at 66 and eases to 55. Hamilton, home of Harris County, runs 67 and 57, and LaFayette and Chambers Academy begin at 63 and finish at 54.
South Georgia stays mild. Cusseta, where Chattahoochee County plays, is 69 at kickoff with humidity near 34 percent — the driest air in the area. Randolph Clay in Cuthbert, Quitman County in Georgetown and Webster County in Preston all sit near 69, with Stewart County in Lumpkin, Marion County in Buena Vista and Schley County in Ellaville at 68. Closer in, Central-Phenix City starts at 65, Russell County in Seale at 64, and Smiths Station and Glenwood at 64 with 57 late. Lanett and Springwood are among the warmer Alabama stops at 68 and 58.
What to bring: no umbrella and no rain gear anywhere. Take a light jacket or a hoodie for the second half, and if you are sitting on metal in Greenville, Hogansville, Valley or LaFayette, a blanket for your legs is worth the trip back to the car. Fill the water bottle too — with dew points in the 40s, sweat evaporates fast enough that you may not notice you are losing it.
Around kickoff → by the fourth quarter, on each school’s own clock.
No school or town by that name in the viewing area.
