The viewing area has picked up 39.12 inches of rain so far this year, outpacing the normal total of 35.88 inches by about three inches through this date. That's a noticeable surplus heading into the autumn months. Looking ahead, a strong El Niño is setting up across the Pacific, which historically tends to steer more storm systems across the Gulf South and raise the risk of severe weather in the region during the cold season. The seasonal outlook for October through December shows a 40 per cent chance of above-normal precipitation, suggesting the wet pattern could continue. Today carries only a 17 per cent chance of rain, but slight chances return Tuesday and Wednesday as we move through the week.
