Friday night football across west Georgia and east Alabama will be dry and clear, from 73 at kickoff in Valley and LaFayette to 77 in Lanett and Cusseta, with upper 60s by the fourth quarter.

Friday night is about as easy as football weather gets around here. Clear to mostly clear sky everywhere, wind of five miles an hour or less, and a zero percent rain chance in every town in the viewing area. Kickoff temperatures run 73 to 77 across the 19 counties, and by the fourth quarter almost everyone is in the upper 60s. One note before the numbers: Alabama schools are on Central time and Georgia schools on Eastern, and these readings are taken on each school's own clock.
The coolest seats in the area are in Chambers County. Around LaFayette, home of LaFayette and Chambers Academy, and in Valley, where Valley and Beulah play, it is 73 around kickoff and 67 by the fourth quarter. That is the one corner of the map where a light jacket earns its place in the truck. Ten miles down the road in Lanett, where Lanett and Springwood are, it is a full four degrees warmer: 77 at kickoff, 71 late.
The other warm spot is Cusseta, where Chattahoochee County plays. It is 77 there too, and the driest air of the night, with humidity around 49 percent. In Columbus — Shaw, Hardaway, Carver, Jordan, Spencer, Kendrick, Northside, Columbus, Brookstone, Pacelli and Calvary Christian — figure 75 at kickoff and 70 by the fourth quarter, with the lights at Kinnett Stadium and A.J. McClung sitting under a mostly clear sky. Across the river at Central-Phenix City it is 75 and 69, and out at Russell County in Seale, 74 and 68.
In Auburn, where Auburn High and Lee-Scott are, and in Opelika with Opelika and Beauregard, it is 74 at kickoff and 68 late. Smiths Station and Glenwood run a degree warmer late at 69. Around LaGrange — LaGrange, Troup County and LaGrange Academy — it is 76 and 70, and the same at Callaway in Hogansville.
Three places will be dead calm: Eufaula, Barbour County in Clayton and Booker T. Washington in Tuskegee all show no wind at all, sitting at 74 around kickoff and 68 by the fourth quarter. Still air holds humidity close, and Tuskegee is at 66 percent, so it will feel a touch heavier there than the number suggests.
South and east of Columbus, Stewart County in Lumpkin, Webster County in Preston and Schley County in Ellaville all go 76 and 70. Marion County in Buena Vista, Taylor County in Butler and Quitman County in Georgetown sit at 75 and 70; Randolph Clay in Cuthbert, Central in Talbotton and Manchester are at 74 and 69, with Greenville and Loachapoka a degree cooler late at 68. In Hamilton, Harris County is 75 and 69.
What to bring: nothing, mostly. Leave the umbrella and the poncho at home. Metal bleachers give up heat fast once the sun is gone, so a long sleeve shirt for the second half is plenty anywhere, and a real jacket only if you are in LaFayette or Valley. Saturday morning after all this starts near 59 in Columbus, so the drive home will be the coolest part of the night.
