How hot will it get in Columbus GA this week?
Columbus, Georgia is forecast to warm from 83 degrees today to 90 degrees on Wednesday under sunny skies before rain chances return Friday.

The thermometer at the Columbus Airport read 59 degrees at 5:57 Sunday morning, 6 degrees below the normal low for the date. By Wednesday afternoon, that same thermometer is forecast to reach 90.
Forecasters at the National Weather Service in Peachtree City explain the swing this way: the deep upper-level low that gave the Valley its early taste of fall is sliding off toward the North Atlantic, and a ridge of high pressure is building in from the Mississippi Valley. The air overhead is remarkably dry — enough moisture in the entire column to make about half an inch of rain if you wrung it out. Dry air heats quickly in the afternoon and lets heat escape quickly at night, which is why Columbus, LaGrange and Auburn are running from the 50s to the 80s in the same day. Look for 83 degrees today, 86 Tuesday, 90 Wednesday and 89 Thursday, with sunshine all four days.
Columbus has already recorded 96 days at 90 or better this year, and the streak counter currently sits at zero. Wednesday would put another mark on the board. It will not be anything close to the record for September 28, which is 97 degrees, set in 2019.
The change arrives late in the week. Moisture from the Gulf and the Atlantic pushes back inland Thursday and Friday, and by the weekend the atmosphere over west Georgia and east Alabama may hold close to two inches of water — above the 1.6 inches that marks the wet end of the range for this time of year. That favors downpours that add up fast, though forecasters see no signal for severe storms. Rain chances run 54 percent Friday, 58 percent Saturday and 56 percent Sunday, with Sunday's high easing to 81.
September has brought Columbus 2.40 inches of rain, about six tenths of an inch behind normal for the month, even with the year as a whole running 3.37 inches ahead. If the yard needs water, the middle of this week is the time to do it.
