How warm will it get in Columbus this week and when does rain return?
Columbus, Georgia warms from a high near 78 on Wednesday to about 82 on Friday with no rain, and the next good rain chance arrives late Saturday into Sunday.

The sun came up over the RiverWalk at 7:53 this morning with the thermometer at the Columbus Airport reading just under 50 degrees. Enjoy that number, because it is the coolest thing the Valley has going for it for the rest of the work week.
Columbus should reach 78 today, 81 on Thursday and 82 on Friday. The normal high for this date is 75, so we finish October running a few degrees warm. This is nowhere near the record for October 28, which is 89 degrees set back in 1984. Nights warm up too: tonight bottoms out near 50, but by Friday morning the low in Columbus is closer to 60.
The reason is a ridge of high pressure parked over the eastern Tennessee mountains. It is pushing a light northeast breeze of 5 to 8 miles an hour across west Georgia and east Alabama and keeping the lower atmosphere dry. The dew point in Columbus this morning was 46 degrees, which is dry air for us. Thursday morning may start with some low cloud sliding in from a weak storm system off the Southeast coast, but forecasters at Peachtree City expect it to clear by evening with no rain attached.
Dry air and dry fuels add up. The National Weather Service office in Birmingham has flagged a medium fire weather risk through Friday for east Alabama, including Auburn, Opelika, Tuskegee and Valley. If you are burning yard debris this week, do it with a hose already unrolled, and do not leave it unattended.
The change comes from a long way off. The remnants of Tropical Storm Vance will move ashore on Mexico's west coast and into West Texas by Friday morning, and that tropical moisture is expected to spread along the Gulf Coast states through Saturday. West Georgia sees it late Saturday at the earliest, with the better rain chances Sunday. Birmingham forecasters say it is not yet clear whether the wettest weather holds off until after trick-or-treat hours Saturday evening, so plan on having a backup for anything outdoors.
