What is the weekend boating and fishing forecast for Lake Eufaula and West Point Lake?
Saturday is the better day on the water, with calm wind and a 79-degree afternoon at Lake Eufaula, while Sunday brings a 70 to 73 percent rain chance at Lake Harding, West Point Lake and Eufaula.

If you only get one day on the water this weekend, make it Saturday. Wind is not the issue at any of the three big lakes: it stays at 10 miles an hour or less from Saturday morning through Sunday afternoon, comfortably under the roughly 15 mile an hour mark where a small boat starts taking a beating. The difference between the two days is rain, and the split is sharp.
At Lake Harding, north of Columbus on the Georgia-Alabama line, Saturday begins at 60 degrees at 8 AM with a 5 mile an hour breeze, mostly cloudy sky and a 3 percent rain chance. By 2 PM it is 75 with the wind up to 10 and a 23 percent chance of a shower. Sunday is a different lake entirely. At 8 AM it is 61 with showers likely and a 70 percent chance of rain, and by 2 PM it is 70 with that chance still at 61 percent.
West Point Lake, between LaGrange and West Point, has the coolest start of the three. Saturday at 8 AM is 57 degrees with a 5 mile an hour breeze and only a 4 percent rain chance, warming to 72 by 2 PM with a 22 percent chance. Sunday morning carries the highest rain chance anywhere on the water, 73 percent at 8 AM with the temperature at 59, easing only to 65 percent by mid-afternoon at 67 degrees.
Lake Eufaula is the warm one. Saturday morning starts at 62 and the afternoon reaches 79 degrees at 2 PM, the warmest reading at any of the three lakes all weekend, with a 26 percent chance of a shower. Sunday morning is the one to watch closely: 65 degrees at 8 AM with showers and thunderstorms likely and a 66 percent rain chance. If you hear thunder out on that open water, there is no safe place to wait it out. Head for the ramp.
One thing for the anglers working below the dam near Columbia, Alabama. Over the seven days through October 27, the Chattahoochee River below Lake Eufaula averaged about 5,870 cubic feet per second against a normal of roughly 4,430 for these same dates, so there has been more water moving than usual, though still within the normal range for late October. Upstream, the Chattahoochee River in Columbus averaged about 2,870 cubic feet per second, right at its normal of about 2,790. Remember that the dams release in pulses for power generation, so what you see at any one hour can look nothing like the week's average.
What to bring: a light jacket for the 8 AM run Saturday, especially at West Point Lake where you are starting in the 50s, and you will be peeling it off by ten o'clock. For Sunday, pack real rain gear rather than a windbreaker, stow a dry bag for phones and keys, and check the radar before you back the trailer down.
Each day, 8 AM → 2 PM.
Forecast: National Weather Service, at each place. Wind and rain are the highest of the readings shown.
