How hot will it get in Columbus GA this week?
Columbus, Georgia is forecast to reach 87 degrees Sunday and Monday, 90 Tuesday and 92 on both Wednesday and Thursday before rain chances return Friday and Saturday.

The air along the Chattahoochee RiverWalk in Columbus this morning was 59 degrees with a dew point in the mid 50s, dry enough that a shaded bench felt like the middle of October. That air is on its way out.
The National Weather Service office in Peachtree City calls this stretch "false fall," and the numbers back it up. Columbus should reach 87 today and again Monday, 90 on Tuesday, then 92 on both Wednesday and Thursday. A dome of high pressure builds over the Southeast midweek, and air sinking under high pressure warms and dries as it comes down, which keeps the sky clear and pushes afternoon temperatures well above the normal high of 84 for late September.
The part of the forecast discussion that is not routine is Tuesday afternoon. Forecasters expect the relative humidity to fall close to the level they watch for hazardous fire weather. In the dry grass and pine straw around Hamilton, Lumpkin, Cuthbert and Tuskegee, that is the afternoon to be careful with a burn pile, a trailer chain dragging on pavement or a cigarette out a truck window.
Moisture works back in off the Gulf and the Atlantic late in the week. The rain chance in Columbus is 28 percent Friday and 53 percent Saturday, the first meaningful chance in days. Peachtree City notes that if showers do develop, they could hold highs down several degrees from the low 90s now in the forecast.
For perspective, 92 is warm for the end of September but nowhere near the record for this date in Columbus, which is 99, set in 2019. The city has already logged 96 days at 90 or above this year.
If you have put fall plants in the ground, the soil about two inches down is running near 70 degrees and the air above it is about to get much drier. Water them Tuesday.
