What is the weather for Friday night high school football in the Chattahoochee Valley?
Friday night games across west Georgia and east Alabama will be dry and mostly cloudy, from 69 degrees at kickoff in LaFayette to 75 in Columbus, falling into the mid 60s by the fourth quarter.

Late October football usually means digging a jacket out of the truck. This Friday, most of the viewing area will not need one. Every town on our list sits between 69 and 75 degrees around kickoff, the sky stays mostly cloudy, the wind stays near 5 mph, and the rain chance is zero almost everywhere. Clouds hold the warmth in, so the drop from the first quarter to the fourth is a gentle one, generally four to six degrees.
The coolest stands in the area will be in Chambers County. In LaFayette, where LaFayette and Chambers Academy play, it will be 69 around kickoff and 64 by the fourth quarter. Valley and Beulah in Valley see the same 64 late, and so does Greenville in Meriwether County, starting from 70. Those are the three places where a light sweatshirt earns its keep after halftime.
Columbus is the warm end of the scale. Shaw, Hardaway, Columbus, Spencer, Kendrick, Jordan, Carver, Northside, Calvary Christian, Pacelli and Brookstone all sit under 75 degrees around kickoff and 70 by the fourth quarter, with the humidity a comfortable 55 percent. The same 75 shows up in the smaller Georgia towns east and south of town: Chattahoochee County in Cusseta, Marion County in Buena Vista, Schley County in Ellaville and Webster County in Preston, with Stewart County in Lumpkin and Taylor County in Butler at 74 and still 69 late.
In between, it is a pleasant night nearly everywhere. Central-Phenix City is 73 around kickoff and 68 late. Russell County in Seale is 71 and 66, Smiths Station and Glenwood are 71 and 67. Around LaGrange, where LaGrange, Troup County and LaGrange Academy play, it will be 72 at kickoff and 66 by the fourth quarter, with Callaway in Hogansville a degree cooler at each check. Harris County in Hamilton runs 72 and 67, Manchester 72 and 66, Central-Talbotton 73 and 68. Auburn and Lee-Scott are 70 and 65, Opelika and Beauregard 71 and 66, and Lanett and Springwood 72 and 67.
Two differences worth knowing. Down at Eufaula and at Barbour County in Clayton, it is only 70 degrees at kickoff but the humidity is 78 percent, so the air feels heavier and the aluminum bleachers will feel damp on your hands. And in Tuskegee, where Booker T. Washington plays, the wind goes calm — flags hanging straight down, every whistle and every note from the band carrying clean across the field.
The only rain anywhere in the forecast is a 1 percent chance at Quitman County in Georgetown and Randolph Clay in Cuthbert, which is about as close to dry as a forecast gets. Leave the umbrella at home. Short sleeves will do through halftime from Loachapoka and Notasulga to Lumpkin, with a hoodie in the bag for the ride home.
Make the most of it. The clouds thicken Saturday and the rain arrives for Sunday, so Friday night is the dry one this week.
