Will it rain this weekend in Columbus, Georgia?
Columbus stays dry and warms into the low 80s by Friday, then rain chances rise late Saturday with a wet Sunday expected across west Georgia and east Alabama.

The air along the Chattahoochee RiverWalk in Columbus this afternoon is about as dry as it gets around here. The temperature is near 74 degrees, the dew point has fallen to roughly 44, the relative humidity is down to 34 percent and there is not a cloud over the river. Dew point is simply the temperature at which the air would have to cool before moisture condensed out of it, so a reading in the 40s means there is very little water in the air at all.
That dryness is the story for the rest of the work week. High pressure has settled over the Southeast and is in no hurry to leave, and each afternoon runs a little warmer than the one before: 78 degrees today and Wednesday in Columbus, 81 on Thursday and 82 on Friday. The normal high for October 27 is 75 degrees, and the record for this calendar date is 88, set in 2010, so warm as it will feel from Phenix City to Opelika, nothing this week is close to a record.
What the National Weather Service is actually watching is fire weather. The Peachtree City and Birmingham offices flagged the same combination this morning: fuels drying out as the leaves come down, and very little moisture in the air to slow a fire once it starts. Birmingham puts east Alabama at a medium fire weather risk through Friday, and the Georgia forecasters note that fall fire season is just getting underway. If you are burning a leaf pile this week in Hamilton, LaFayette or Cuthbert, that is the reason to stay with it.
Rain chances climb late Saturday and take over on Sunday, when Columbus is at a 53 percent chance. Peachtree City forecasters expect a decent soaking Sunday, with model totals of 1.5 to 2.5 inches across their area. They say the severe threat looks limited, and dry ground should absorb most of it, though storms crossing the same ground repeatedly could put water in low spots.
Columbus has already measured 43.64 inches of rain this year against a normal of 39.56 by this date, so Sunday arrives on a year that has run about four inches wet. Thursday and Friday are the days to finish the outdoor jobs.
