Our automated weather channel is on the air around the clock: the radar, the temperatures, the week ahead — and when a warning hits the Valley, it stays with the storm.

How cold will it be Monday morning at the bus stop in Columbus and LaGrange?
Monday at 7 a.m. it will be 52 in Columbus and 47 in LaGrange, with sunny skies, no rain and light wind across the whole CNAW viewing area.

At 7 o'clock Monday morning, the sun will not be up yet. Sunrise in Columbus comes at 7:51, so the first stop of the day happens under a clear, dark sky, in the coldest hour of the whole 24. That is normal for the end of October, and it is why a morning that feels raw at the curb turns into an afternoon near 77 by the time school lets out.
The good news is how little the Valley varies Monday. From the coldest stop to the warmest, the spread is only about 7 degrees, every town is sunny, and the rain chance is zero everywhere from Hogansville to Clayton.
The coldest corner is the northern end. Hogansville, home of Callaway, starts at 46 with the wind nearly still at about 5 mph. LaGrange — LaGrange High, Troup County and LaGrange Academy — and Greenville both begin at 47, also with light wind. That is not a coincidence. On a clear night with barely any breeze, the ground gives its heat up to the sky and the air right above it cools the furthest, because there is no wind stirring warmer air down to the surface. Where the breeze holds near 10 mph, the morning stays a few degrees milder.
Along the Chattambers line towns in Alabama, it is 48 at the stop: Valley and Beulah in Valley, Lanett and Springwood in Lanett, and LaFayette and Chambers Academy in LaFayette. Manchester comes in at 49. Talbotton, where Central-Talbotton is, along with Georgetown's Quitman County and Eufaula, all begin the morning at 50.
The broad middle of the area sits at 51: Phenix City and Central-Phenix City, Smiths Station and Glenwood, Opelika and Beauregard, Russell County at Seale, Barbour County at Clayton, Taylor County at Butler and Webster County at Preston.
Columbus is 52 at 7 a.m. with a 10 mph breeze — that covers Shaw, Hardaway, Columbus High, Spencer, Kendrick, Jordan, Carver, Northside, Calvary Christian, Pacelli and Brookstone. The same 52 shows up at Auburn and Lee-Scott in Auburn, Booker T. Washington in Tuskegee, Notasulga, Harris County in Hamilton, Chattahoochee County in Cusseta, Marion County in Buena Vista, Randolph Clay in Cuthbert and Schley County in Ellaville. The mildest stops in the viewing area are Loachapoka and Lumpkin, where Stewart County is, both at 53.
What to send them out in: a hoodie or a light jacket, and nothing more. No umbrella is needed anywhere, and with wind only 5 to 10 mph it will not bite. Pick something that fits in a backpack, because by lunchtime it will be short-sleeve weather again.
One more thing worth knowing for the mornings ahead. Columbus gets 11 hours and 4 minutes of daylight today, and we are losing about a minute and 48 seconds a day. The December solstice is 57 days out, on Monday, December 21. That dark 7 a.m. stop is going to be a fixture for a while.
No school or town by that name in the viewing area.
Forecast: National Weather Service, 7 AM on each town’s own clock — Central in Alabama, Eastern in Georgia.
