Will it rain in Columbus, Georgia this week?
No — the National Weather Service expects Columbus and the rest of west Georgia and east Alabama to stay essentially rain-free through Friday, with highs climbing from 75 on Sunday to 81 by Friday.

Forecasters at the National Weather Service office in Peachtree City said it about as plainly as a forecast ever gets this morning: rain-free conditions and near-normal temperatures for the next seven days. From Columbus and Phenix City to Hamilton, Talbotton and Eufaula, the rain chance sits at zero through the weekend and never rises above a token 1 percent through Friday.
The reason is a wedge of high pressure sliding down the spine of the Appalachians, which pushes dry air into Georgia and Alabama from the northeast. That is the breeze you feel in Columbus right now — about 12 miles an hour out of the northeast, with gusts of 20 to 25 possible, strongest over central Georgia. The humidity is down to 47 percent and the dew point to 47 degrees, which is genuinely dry air for late October here.
That combination has the Birmingham forecast office flagging a medium fire weather risk this weekend: dry fuels, little moisture and a touch more wind than usual. Peachtree City noted that humidity is running just above the critical level and the wind just below it. In practical terms, from Lanett and Tuskegee to Cuthbert, a pile of yard debris will catch and spread far more readily than it would have a month ago. Keep a hose within reach, or wait.
The odd part is that this has been a wet year. Columbus has collected 43.64 inches of rain so far against a normal of 39.44 by this date, and October alone has brought 3.30 inches where 2.18 is typical. Yesterday the airport topped out at 74 with a morning low of 49.
From here it warms slowly: 75 today, 76 Monday, 79 Tuesday, 77 Wednesday, 79 Thursday, 81 Friday and 82 Saturday, when a small 18 percent rain chance finally appears. The record high for this date in Columbus is 90, set in 1984, and nothing this week comes close.
Newly planted shrubs and fall greens will need the hose, because the gauge is going to stay empty.
